"Hard to believe that this choir exists only since march 1999"... the listener may think, still euphoric about the spirit of gospel
music. It took six months then to come up with a first concert programme and it grew easily to entertaining one and half hours within a short time. The first CD "That's My Solution" was released after one year and soon turned out to be a huge success. The second CD "The Gospel Train Is Comin' " is a live recording from a concert in the Weißig crusade church and followed in September 2001.
The Repertoire contains traditional and modern songs, all of them arranged in particular for this choir. And: it is enriched by new songs specially composed for the "Passengers". The "Gospel Passengers" perform straight and stick with quality for the show, due to their leader Thomas Stelzer. Around thirty choir members, mainly non-professional singers, leave no doubt they truly enjoy the thing; after all, a
lifetime dream has fulfilled for many of them. A cheerful and enthusiastic public rewards all of this, not only in Saxony's churches, concert halls and clubs. T h e highlight in the "Gospel
Passengers" history: two successful concerts with gospel legend Edwin Hawkins in Dresden and Chemnitz. Giving a statement Edwin Hawkins appreciated: "This is one of the best German gospel choirs I've ever heard"
, and he'd be pleased to work again with the Dresdeners. The indescribable feeling of having played together with the master still goes on for the choir and also brought a lot of musical stimulation.
In every concert one can expect to be surprised, as new songs come and go and no performance seems to be quite the same.
